Other Pest
Beyond common insect and rodent pests, other animals can cause problems requiring pest control. Moles, while beneficial in some ways, can damage lawns and contaminate livestock feed with soil from their molehills. Spiders, though often feared, are generally harmless but their webs can be unsightly. Effective control strategies for these "other pests" vary depending on the species and the specific problem. Moles are often managed through trapping, while spider control may involve habitat modification and targeted insecticide applications. Professional pest control services can provide expert advice and implement appropriate solutions for these less common but still problematic pests.

Moles
Moles (15cm) are small mammals with velvety black fur and distinctive spade-like forelimbs. They are solitary creatures, except during their February-June breeding season, producing one litter of 3-4 young per year. Moles inhabit pastureland, golf courses, lawns, and playing fields, living in extensive underground tunnel systems. These systems include deep shelter tunnels (25+ cm), shallower feeding tunnels (5-25cm), and surface tunnels just below the roots. Moles can dig up to 30 meters of tunnels nightly, feeding on earthworms, insect larvae, and slugs, consuming 40-50g daily. While beneficial in controlling some soil pests, their molehills and burrows can damage lawns, pastures, and farm machinery. Soil from molehills can also contaminate silage, potentially leading to Listeria contamination and causing abortions in livestock. Trapping within the feeding tunnels is a common control method.
Spiders
Spiders, ranging from less than half a centimeter to 25cm across (including legs), are commonly black, brown, or gray, though some exhibit brighter colors. They possess eight legs, a cephalothorax, and an abdomen. Their mouthparts are adapted for biting and injecting venom, primarily used to subdue prey captured in their webs. While most species spin webs, some hunt without them. Females can lay over 1,000 eggs, in batches of 1 to 1,000. Development from egg to adult can take a year or more. Spiderlings are carnivorous, like their adult counterparts. Spiders are found in diverse habitats, both indoors and outdoors.
